Our goal for this site is to make the case for a more progressive form of government. In doing so, we will rely largely, but not exclusively, on tabulated data in the form of charts and graphs.
Obviously, there are many who feel that a progressive transition would eventually lead to some form of totalitarianism. In response, we would quote the economist Michael Hudson who notes that “all economies are mixed economies.” What we are striving for is a better balance of the public and private sectors that would reduce inequality and usher in a new era of egalitarianism.
This transition would of course be anathema to many conservative voters. That is to be expected from those whose wealth depends on maintaining the status quo. But many Republican voters are not wealthy and are not vested in the current economic system, although right-wing media work hard to convince these voters that they are vested.
In closing, we quote the words of authors Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson from their book The Spirit Level: “Egalitarian sentiments are hidden close to the hearts of vast numbers of people of all shades of political opinion.”
